When PSY makes music, he makes sure he does it right. The singer has already been in the music industry for over 20 years and he is still making headlines.
He has continued releasing catchy dance songs that get listeners hooked on the first listen, as well as music videos with whimsical narratives and striking choreography.
Usually the hard part as an artist is keeping new music fresh and novel, but PSY has succeeded in returning again and again with something original.
It’s already been five years since his last album “4X2=8” (2017) and PSY is currently heavily promoting his upcoming album.
“Psy 9th,” set to drop on Friday, is the singer’s eighth full-length album. One of PSY’s trademarks is to add a number to his album’s name to designate how many albums he has dropped; for instance, “Ssa2” (2002) (pronounced psy), “PsyFive” (2010) and “Chiljip Psy-da” (2015) (chil refers to the number seven).
However, “Psy Six Rules, Pt. 1” (2012) remained as an EP as PSY decided to skip the second part, therefore “Psy 9th” becomes his eighth full-length album.

After posting the tracklist earlier this month and revealing that six artists will be featured on the album, PSY has been revealing their names one by one — Sung Si-kyung, Heize, Jessi, Hwasa, Crush and Tablo.
PSY has created pop art-inspired artworks for each track as well.
The third track “Celeb” was first teased to the public in 2019 when PSY showed its music video (featuring singer and actor Suzy) during his “Summer Swag” concerts.
On Tuesday, the final song — the lead track — was revealed as “That That,” produced by Suga of BTS, who also features on the track.
As with all the other artists who took part in making the the new album, PSY unveiled interview footage, talking about how "That That" came to be on Tuesday. PSY and Suga say they became close friends while working on the song despite their 16 years age gap.

Most of the global audience only know PSY because of “Gangnam Style” (2012). The song’s music video became the first to garner over one billion views on YouTube in its history, and led PSY to earn numerous Guinness World Records.
His following songs, “Gentleman” (2013), “Daddy” (2015), “New Face” (2017) and “I Luv It” (2017) failed to see the same success internationally, but were still considered to be hits in Korea.
PSY is much more than just “Gangnam Style” and the horseback riding dance. He is the entire package for a wild and silly Friday night.
Fortunately, “Psy 9th” will be released just in time for the weekend.
