Sights from the Pokemon GO Safari Zone in Goyang city, Korea

Niantic has always been a company that wanted people to go out and explore the “real world”. As the pandemic era has been easing down, they were able to hold offline events for Pokemon GO again, as they held their annual GO Fest offline in Berlin, Seattle, and Sapporo.

Another offline event for Niantic and Pokemon GO was the Safari Zone, which came back last year. This time, Safari Zone came to Korea, in Goyang city.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from
the mayor of Goyang and Niantic's APAC marketing manager. (Source: Niantic)
There were Pikachu statues around — each of them were PokeStops.

How about a closer look?
The statues were popular photo zones for dogs too.
Next to the statues were standup cut-outs of Willow and the three team leaders.
It wasn't too crowded on day 1, since it was during the day on a weekday...

But on days 2 and 3, on the weekend... there were so many more people.
A lot of people came from overseas.
Here was a couple that was willing to trade some Pokemon.
There were some trainers with impressive fashion.

Wait... Is that you, Ash?

The map of the area was easy to recognize.
If you were tired of walking around, you could take a break at team Valor's rest area.
Or team Mystic...

Or team Inistinct.

They had a trading area for trainers who wanted to trade some Pokemon as well.
For those who forgot their power pack, they kindly prepared a power bank to recharge.
At Meet & Greet, there was a photo zone with Pikachu!

These Pikachus were widely popular with kids.

"Pika?"
"Pika!!"
It was a great day to stroll around...

And the park was beautiful.

Overall, four shinies in one day made my trip more than worthwhile.
